AUT – Top 150 in THE’s rankings for young university

THE Young Uni Rankings 2018

AUT may have a long, illustrious history of delivering high quality education that stretches back over 100 years, but as a university we’re still fresh-faced and young at heart having celebrated our 18th birthday earlier this year. And 18 is such an exciting age in New Zealand. You can vote. You can get married. You can even win the lottery (fingers crossed). But for us the real coup of being young is featuring in the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2018.

We’re pleased to say that, once again, AUT came in the top 150 in THE’s rankings for young universities like ourselves. Released earlier this month, this year’s edition of the rankings assessed 250 institutions from 55 different countries, with AUT being the only New Zealand university to feature. THE’s list of the top millennial universities – institutions founded since the year 2000 – also placed AUT in the 20-30 band.

Covering universities aged 50 and under, the rankings apply the same rigorous 13 performance indicators as the overall THE World University Rankings, with young universities measured across their teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and industry income. To reflect the special characteristics of younger universities though, the methodology for the Young University Rankings is recalibrated, with reputational factors being taken into account.

So there you have it: being young isn’t just fun. It’s educational.
